As a first step in partnering with Evangel, our team spent time worshipping with them and learned more about their vision through the Basecamp Experience. In this process, their leadership revealed that one of their goals was to be a light for their community - they pointed to Isaiah 60:1-3, which became an inspiration for the design process to come:
"Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
Their vision took shape as a new 1,500 seat worship center, expanded preschool and kid's ministry space, a 7-day a week coffee shop, and a plaza open to the public with an entry tower that would spill light out into the community. This plaza and tower would draw in visitors while also acting as a guide for first-time guests. This new entryway, combined with new wayfinding, a warm fireplace, and intentional places for gathering in the lobby, all help the community, and first-time guests feel welcome in Evangel's new space.
