Silver Screens to Sacred Spaces
With their original church building busting at the seams, Thousand Hills Church leaders hoped a vacant AMC movie theatre could solve their space constraints once and for all. They looked to Visioneering to make the vision a reality.
01
The Opportunity
Turning an AMC movie theatre into a functional, comfortable, inspiring space of worship is no small task, and the Visioneering team jumped at the opportunity to stretch and grow.
02
The Vision
Through our creative and collaborative Basecamp experience, the Visioneering team worked with Thousand Hills leaders to bring their vision of the church being the community’s “City on a Hill” to life.
03
The Execution
With the vision set, the Visioneering team went to work solving the challenges of turning theatres into sacred spaces, including a daycare classrooms, common areas, and mezzanine floors for fellowship events. To build the sanctuary, the design team developed a girder truss to replace the load bearing wall between two theaters, creating one space large enough to achieve the required worship capacity. A coffee café and other community connection areas were designed in the main lobby area, completing the vision that the City on the Hill was truly a light for all.
From the Client
“I’m proud of what Visioneering has done with the facility. They gave us the drawings and I said, ‘if you can build that, that’s pretty cool’. Well, they did build that.” – Ben De Boof, Lead Pastor
